About Aegina
Aegina is a large (83
km2 - ca. 12.000 inhabitants), partly mountainous
and partly green-hilled island in the Saronic
Gulf, just 26 km south of Piraeus, the harbour
of Athens. It's highest peak is Mount Agios
Ilias (532 m). Many people from Athens come
to Aegina in weekends and holidays, and visit
the beautiful well-preserved Apheae-temple
(5th century BC), picturesque fishing villages
or the beaches. There are regular ferries
from Piraeus; it takes about one hour to get
to the island.
You can
get to Aegina by boat from Piraeus and the
islands Hydra, Poros
and Spetses. |
